FAIR HAVEN – The Borough Council  is scheduled to vote Tuesday evening on two ordinances that would prohibit smoking in both borough-owned parks and natural areas.
The ordinances up for consideration, which have been in  discussion by the governing body for a number of months and were introduced on Sept. 9, says: “No person shall smoke any products, which include but are not limited to, cigarettes, pipes, cigars, etc., in any municipally owned public park, sanctuary or recreation area.”
There may be a glimmer of hope for those who may still wish to light up, however.
The ordinance also contains wording “except on impervious surfaces,” such as in parking areas.
If adopted by the council, the ordinances would carry a penalty of a $25 fine for conviction of a first offense and $50 for each offense there after.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in borough hall, 748 River Road. The public will have an opportunity to comment prior to the council’s vote.
