10/18 – Comment Period for Gateway National Recreation Area Extended

SANDY HOOK — The National Park Service has announced it will extend the public comment period until Oct. 22 for the draft general management plan for its Gateway National Recreation Area. The timeframe the service initially set to allow the public to weigh in on the plan was from Aug. 1 to Oct. 2. But given the federal government shutdown impacted park service operations, park service representatives have extended the period.
The general management plan is intended to guide the park service over the next 20 years for its plans concerning for the federal parkland of its Gateway areas, consisting of 26,607 acres in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, N.Y., and at Sandy Hook and Fort Hancock.
