FREEHOLD – A 16-year-old Colts Neck Township boy was arrested and charged today in connection with the July 7 stabbing of a township woman at her home, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni has announced.
Investigators from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Colts Neck Police Department arrested the juvenile, charging him with first-degree attempted murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and first-degree carjacking.
According to the prosecutor’s office, township police received a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. on July 7 from a Colts Neck woman indicating she had been stabbed by an unknown assailant. The Colts Neck Police Department and emergency medical services responded to her residence where they found she had been stabbed several times. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She remained hospitalized for several days.
A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Colts Neck Police Department revealed that the victim heard some noise coming from the outside of her house and when she went to open her door to investigate, the assailant pushed his way into her house and stabbed her several times. The juvenile then took the keys to her car and fled the scene in her vehicle parked in her driveway. The vehicle was recovered in Aberdeen later that same morning.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
