LONG BRANCH – Aslan Youth Ministries will host its sixth annual, all women’s Beauty & The Beach Run™ on Saturday, Nov. 1, on the boardwalk at Pier Village.
What started in 2009 as a small run sporting 300 women has now grown into a major women’s run along the New Jersey shore. Beauty & The Beach Run™ is, uniquely, a 5-mile race as opposed to a 5K. More than a thousand women from the tri-state area have already registered for this year’s run, but there is still room for approximately 300 more.
Those who are interested in joining the run on Saturday may visit www.beautyandthebeachrun.com to register. Walkers are always welcome as well.
Maureen Cullen, Rebecca Rothstein and Janet Dorgan of BFF, LLC operate the run for Aslan Youth Ministries. All proceeds after expenses go to support Aslan’s programs in Monmouth County and Haiti. For almost 40 years Aslan has been serving urban at-risk children through remediation tutoring, mentoring, Right Choices classes (anchored in Judeo-Christian values) and myriad enrichment programs.
Aslan currently serves the needs of 150 children, ages 5 to 18, in Asbury Park/Neptune, Long Branch and the west side of Red Bank. Additionally, Aslan serves 200 children in L’Acajou, Haiti, and has just built a modern medical clinic on 6 acres of land the ministry owns.
The name “Aslan” (which means lion in Persian) is taken from the ever-popular, classic “Chronicles of Narnia” series by British author, C.S. Lewis.
