OCEANPORT – Today U.S. Rep Pallone Jr., D-6, spoke at the Maple Place Middle School to mark the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
Pallone was greeted by honor students and then read from Kennedy’s inaugural address in the school’s cafeteria. Pallone talked to students in grades 7 and 8 about the 50th anniversary of JFK’s death and discussed his memory of the assassination as a seventh grader at the time.
Pallone also shared his experiences of having attended Kennedy’s funeral in Washington, D.C. in 1963.
“President Kennedy was an incredible inspiration for so many Americans and his death was a tragedy that changed the nation, which is still felt today,” Pallone said. “His message of service inspired me to give back to my country and it is a message that should be passed to new generations of Americans. I will never forget my experience attending President Kennedy’s funeral. I was in seventh grade, just like the students at Maple Place Middle School, and today was a good opportunity to share my memories of President Kennedy and encourage these young people honor his legacy by engaging in public service.”
