11/27 – Henry Hudson Trail Repairs Underway, December Re-opening Expected

317

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – As Thanksgiving approaches, area walkers, runners and bicyclists may be thankful to learn that the cleanup and repairs needed to re-open a 1.5-mile section of Henry Hudson Trail between Popamora Point in Highlands and the Municipal Marina in Atlantic Highlands are nearing completion.
That portion of trail has been closed since Super Storm Sandy. Repairs were delayed due to permitting, design and construction issues.
Staff and volunteers from the Monmouth County Park System – with assistance from Atlantic Highlands Department of Public Works – have been working to remove tree limbs, debris, and remnants from trail structures destroyed by the storm.
When work is complete, trail conditions will be “primitive.”  Park system staff expect to reopen the trail by mid-to-late December.
