HIGHLANDS – New Jersey State Police are continuing their search for the owner of a boat who has been missing since Saturday evening when his boat was discovered, partially sunk, in the Shrewsbury River off of Highlands.
According to the Monmouth County Police, Fire and EMS Facebook page, authorities are searching for Edward Broderick, described as a white male approximately 36 or 37 years old, who is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and was last seen wearing green or gray sweatpants.
According to Sgt. Adam Grossman, a state police spokesman, who confirmed Broderick is the subject of the search. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified Saturday evening about a possible missing boater. Coast Guard representatives contacted the state police.
Coast Guard personnel began an aerial search of the area. A crew on a state police boat discovered the mostly submerged 20-foot clamming boat about 20 yards off a bulkhead at Marine Place, according to Grossman.
State police divers and a police boat with side-scan sonar searched the vessel but did not locate anyone, Grossman said.
Monday morning Sea Tow, a private company, removed the boat, which will be examined by state police personnel.
The air and water search is continuing, Grossman said.
The missing person investigation is being handled by Sea Bright Police, but a department representative was not immediately available for comment.
