RED BANK – The borough council is expected at tonight’s meeting to name Capt. Darren McConnell as the borough’s new chief of police, according to a borough official who asked not to be identified.
McConnell, a department veteran for more than two decades, has been responsible for overseeing the 41-member department since this  summer when the late Chief Stephen G. McCarthy stepped back to undergo medical treatment. McCarthy died on Sept. 23.
The borough council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., at the Municipal Complex, 90 Monmouth St.
