13th Annual Keith McHeffey 3-Mile Fun Run

SEA BRIGHT – Under blue skies with temperatures in the mid-40s on Saturday, March 30, more than 300 runners took part in the 13th annual running of the Keith McHeffey 3-Mile Fun Run.
The event, sponsored by KDM Foundation, honors the memory of Keith McHeffey, a resident and avid sportsman, by awarding scholarships and doing civic sports-related endeavors in the Two River area.
sportsKDM7-IMG_7096Race headquarters was at the Mad Hatter on Ocean Avenue. The runners started there and headed south on Ocean Avenue, returning to the finish line and into the Mad Hatter for refreshments.
sportsKDM4-2ndgirl-IMG_7130Coming in with a time of 17:45.8, Ken Shatzer from Middletown crossed the finish line in first place. Following closely was 15-year-old Cole Stevens from Fair Haven with an impressive time of 18:39.4 to finish second overall. On the women’s side, 11-year-old Jane Mallach from Rumson crushed the course at 20:26.8, finishing first for the women and 11th overall. Second place for the women was Megan Gubbins with a time of 21:05.5.
