MIDDLETOWN – Township voters will be going to the polls on Tuesday to weigh in on a proposed $19.3 million referendum for what the schools Superintendent William O. George called “critical facility needs.”
According to George, the entire project is estimated at $32.2 million, with $12.9 million – 40 percent of the project – supported by state grants, contingent on voter approval of the referendum.
According to the ballot initiative, the project is intended to upgrade the geothermal systems at the district’s two high schools and its three middle schools. It also includes roof replacement for the high schools, middle schools and Bayview, Ocean Avenue, Fairview, Leonardo, Lincroft, Middletown Village, Navesink, New Monmouth, Nut Swamp and River Plaza elementary schools.
The polls will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 11.
The district website has a page dedicated to the referendum at www.middletownk12.org/referendum2014. The page includes a video of a public presentation last month by the district’s bond attorney and architects.
Middletown is the largest school district in Monmouth County.
