3/12 –Middletown Voters Say Yes to $12.9 Million Schools Referendum

MIDDLETOWN – Township voters came out on Tuesday and approved a $19.3 million public school referendum.
According to unofficial totals provided by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, the vote total was 2,951 in favor, with 1,158 casting votes in opposition, meaning the referendum won by 71.82 percent of the votes cast at polls opened from 4-9 p.m.
The project is expected to cost approximately $32.2 million, with 40 percent –$12.9 million – being paid for by state grants.
The plans call for the upgrading of the geothermal systems at the district’s two high schools and three middle schools and   roof replacements for the high and middle schools and 10 of the district’s 12 primary schools.
