MIDDLETOWN – Committeeman Gerry Scharfenberger will talk at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Middletown Arts Center about Talk on Old First Church.
The free talk at the 36 Church St arts center is part of the Middletown 350th anniversary celebration.
Scharfenberger will talk about the archaeological excavation he conducted at the 17th-century Old First Church. The church housed the first Baptist congregation in New Jersey and also was notable for its use as a hospital by the British Army after the Battle of Monmouth.
Old First Church is located in the Middletown Village Historic District on Kings Highway.
