TRENTON – A New Jersey State Police sergeant, who is a Little Silver resident, has pleaded guilty to falsifying audit reports for law enforcement agencies throughout the state that he was assigned to perform.
Glenn Mannino, 52, pleaded guilty in Superior Court in Mercer County last Thursday to fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with records, according to the state Office of the Attorney General.
As a result of his guilty plea, Mannino will have to give up his position with the State Police and will be permanently prohibited from public employment.
Mannino will appear in court again on April 10 for sentencing, during which time prosecutors are expected to recommend that Mannino be sentenced to probation, according to the attorney general office.
Mannino has been suspended without pay since April 2013 after he was charged with the complaint.
Mannino had been the assistant unit head for the State Police Criminal Justice Information System Control Unit. The unit is responsible for the integrity and security of the computer system that provides more than 700 law enforcement agencies in the state with information for investigations, including criminal history records, motor vehicle records, information on stolen property and missing persons.
The unit ensures that the agencies accessing the databases are adhering to the National Crime Information Center’s requirements for security and proper use of the system.
Authorities said that from October 2009 to June 2011 Mannino fabricated reports on at least 26 occasions for agencies he was assigned to audit but didn’t. He falsely claimed to having visited the agencies, and to further cover it up, he falsified timekeeping entries, authorities said.
