3/3 – Sandy-Related Fund Begins New Round of Grants to Nonprofits
By John Burton
The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, chaired by New Jersey first lady Mary Pat Christie, announced today its fourth cycle of grants for not-for-profit organizations assisting communities and individuals recovering from the storm.
The fund expects to award $5 million for this grant period, running from March 3 to May 23.
The fund helps eligible not-for-profits that provide Super Storm Sandy-specific relief and recovery services. The fund’s focus is on housing assistance, social services specific to unmet needs, mental health support and financial and legal counseling.
To be considered an organization must be a registered 501 (c) 3 tax exempt non-profit. Grant proposals will be considered using the criteria the fund has established, evaluating organizational capacity, track record of success, project alignment to priority funding areas, clarity of project implementation, budget details, expected outcomes and opportunity for impact.
The minimum grant request is $10,000 and final grant announcement are expected on or before June 30.
To date the fund has awarded $25.7 million to 93 organizations that have assisted thousands of state residents.
