The 34th annual Crop Walk will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, starting at Red Bank Regional High School. Organizers are expecting 1,000 participants.
The organization’s goal for the 2014 walk is $115,000. The theme for this year is “We walk with heart and sole to end hunger and change the world.”
The Crop organization is also sponsoring a food collection for rice, beans and peanut butter.
Registration for the walk will begin at the high school on Ridge Road in Little Silver at 1 p.m. The 5-mile walk, which will take participants through Little Silver, Fair Haven and Red Bank, will begin at 2 p.m.
The event will raise funds for 17 local hunger-fighting partners and to fill the shelves of local food pantries with a goal of 14,000 pounds. Students and staff from Christian Brother Academy and friends will sort, count and pack for delivery all of the food for local food pantries, by the end of the day.
Volunteers from high schools, Rotary groups and Habcore will staff water stops with volunteers of all ages filling in with all the tasks needed to make a successful event.
Crop walk participants will share Broad Street in Red Bank with the annual Halloween Parade, so plan on a colorful and lively walk.
Walk day is fun for all ages and will feature an art contest, music by J & J music, clowns, Oasis Backyard Farms organic garden table and displays from partner programs.
Area residents are invited to form teams with friends and family, get sponsors and collect food for the walk.
