39 Proposals for Ft. Hancock Buildings

FORT HANCOCK – The National Park Service has received 39 responses to its request for Expressions of Interest for future uses and rehabilitation proposals for structures at Fort Hancock.
According to the park service, the responses expressed interest in using the aging and deteriorating buildings, located at the historic former fort site, located at Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook, for a variety of uses.
Some expressed an interest in rehabbing buildings to use as private residences, others proposed bed-and-breakfast businesses, using them for office space for not-for-profits and for-profit businesses to complement visitor services at the park.
The National Park Service (NPS) plans to have the proposals available during the next few weeks for the public to see at www.forthancock 21stcentury.org.
The NPS established the Fort Hancock 21st Century Federal Advisory Committee, which sought the Expressions of Interest for the possible future use of the buildings at the historic site.
The committee will hold its next public meeting on Friday, Jan. 10, at the fort’s chapel, where the committee may seek formal requests for proposals, according to the NPS.
