WEST LONG BRANCH – The Center for the Arts at Monmouth University has announced that tickets are on sale for the Sunday, April 6, performance by the touring 1940s musical revue known as “In the Mood.”
The 4 p.m. matinee show marks the latest whistle-stop in what’s become a favorite annual occurrence at the Pollak Theatre. For more than 20 years, the singers, dancers and musicians of “In the Mood” have brought the can-do spirit and big, bold sound of the Greatest Generation to Lindy-hopping life through the hepped-up, energized pop music that helped win a world war, and turn America into a cultural phenomenon with which to be reckoned.
Producer-pianist Bud Forrest and the String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra will be presenting powerhouse performance. The songs, steps and styles of the 1940s will be channeled by a young cast of pros with credits in Broadway touring productions and major theme park shows, backed by a first-class musicians who have worked with some of the biggest names in Nashville, Broadway and Vegas.
A proven crowd-pleaser with New Jersey fans, “In the Mood” mixes colorful costumes, choreography and classic arrangements of favorites like the Andrews Sisters’ jumping “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” Bing Crosby’s sly novelty “Swingin’ on a Star,” Benny Goodman’s pounding epic “Sing! Sing! Sing!” and Glenn Miller’s signature slow-dance “Moonlight Serenade.”
