FREEHOLD – Detectives with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are asking for the public’s assistance as they continue to search for the assailant in the armed robbery of a Keyport gas station early Monday.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Monday an as of yet unidentified white male, at about 5-feet, 11-inches tall and wearing a dark colored hooded Under Armour sweatshirt, entered the Shell service station on Clark Street in Keyport. The man used a box cutter to threaten and assault the attendant and took the station’s cash register, according to authorities.

The robber was last seen fleeing the scene, heading toward Gerard Street in the area of the Matawan/Aberdeen border, authorities said.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video and law enforcement is circulating his image.

Anyone with information is asked to contact prosecutor’s office detective Jose Cruz at 732-921-9733 or Keyport Police detective Shannon Torres at 732-264-0706.

Individuals also may contact Monmouth County Crime stoppers confidential telephone tip line at 1-800-671-4400. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of criminals and fugitives, with the amount of the reward determined by the organization’s volunteer board of directors.
