FREEHOLD – A Keansburg man was sentenced to six years in prison last Friday for hiding the skeletal remains of his deceased daughter in the crawlspace of the former family home.
Dennis Adler, 60, was sentenced following his March 17 guilty plea in Superior Court to one count of disturbing human remains, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The remains were identified as those of Kimberly Adler, Dennis Adler’s daughter, born Dec. 10, 1984. Authorities believed she died summer 2008, The remains were discovered on April 4, 2012.
When entering his guilty plea, Adler admitted moving his daughter’s remains to separate locations between 2008 and 2012, concealing her death from family members and friends and providing false information to law enforcement regarding her whereabouts on several occasions, the prosecutor’s office said.
Kimberly’s remains were discovered by a cleaning crew. They had been sent to the family’s former home on Campview Place, Keansburg, in preparation of a foreclosure sale.
The cause and manner of the woman’s death remains undetermined, authorities said.
Adler was arrested on April 4, 2012, following the discovery of the remains and has been held, until sentencing, in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, in lieu of $100,000 bail, without the option to post a 10 percent bond.
