HOLMDEL – The public is invited to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony during which a refurbished Huey helicopter will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the New Jersey Vietnam Era Museum.
The museum is located at 1 Memorial Lane, located at Exit 116 of the Garden State Parkway.
The guest speaker for the ceremony will be Rocky Bleier, a Vietnam veteran, who is also a four-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Remarks during the ceremony will be made by: retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Clark W. Martin, who is chairman of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation (NJVVMF); Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff, adjutant general of New Jersey; Al Sever
of the 116th Assault Helicopter Company; Ken Gurbisz who was in the army from 1968-1970; and Bob Briant Jr. of the Utility Transportation & Contractors Association.
May 7 was designated by legislation in 1991 as a unique day in New Jersey to honor all those who served in the military during the Vietnam Era from 1959 to 1975.
As part of this year’s ceremony, the foundation will unveil its newly restored Huey helicopter at the Vietnam Era Museum.
The helicopter was restored by the assistance of donors and volunteers and will become a permanent part of the Huey Plaza at the museum.
The NJVVMF received an Operating Support Grant from the
New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
