RUMSON – St. George’s-by-the-River Church is looking for artists to participate in its annual Canterbury Art Show … A Tapestry of the Arts, a premiere exhibition and sale of juried and non-juried artwork.
The three-day event will take place Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29-31.
Artists are invited to visit the event’s website www.canterburyartshow.com to fill out the artist participation form and register for the event. Artists may choose to submit their work for any or all of the show’s segments: the Juried Gallery, the Non-Juried Treasures, and the Non-Juried Portfolio Pieces. Registration fees and forms must be received no later than May 12.
Hundreds of attendees have enjoyed the Canterbury Art Show, which will celebrate its third year. Each year, more than 600 works by artists from all over New Jersey and beyond are displayed and sold.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community,” said Canterbury Art Show chair Coni Lefferts. “Our first two events were very successful, both in terms of attendees and receipts, which was so gratifying.”
All proceeds from the art show directly benefit St. George’s-by-the-River and its outreach grants to more than 30 local agencies serving the needy of Monmouth and Ocean counties, including Lunch Break, Family Promise, HABcore, 180 Turning Lives Around and more.
This year’s jury will include well-known local artists and gallery owners: Chuck Peters of CT Peters Appraisal Service in Red Bank, Erik Johansen, a multimedia artist and award-winning exhibitor and faculty member at Brookdale Community College; and Carol Lynn Chetkin of Red Bank’s Chetkin Gallery.
Last year’s Best in Show winner was Cheryl Griesbach, for her oil The Joyful Wife. The Award in Excellence was given to Avery Brighton for her photograph Sunflower Nest. Other winning artists were Joe Bergholm, Michael Scherfen, Ellen Martin, Lucy Kalian, Brigitte Wachs and Anna Wainright.
This year’s Canterbury Art Show is made possible in part by Monmouth Arts through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
