FREEHOLD – The Colts Neck teenager authorities said stabbed a woman in her Colts Neck home last July will be prosecuted as an adult.
Brennan Doyle, 17, is facing charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking and weapons charges and is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on bail totally $760,000, without the option to post a 10 percent bond, according to Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
As a condition of his bail, should Doyle be able to post it, he will be prohibited from having any contact with the victim or returning to the victim’s home.
Colts Neck police responded to a 911 call at 12:20 a.m. last July 7 from a township woman saying she had been stabbed by an unknown assailant. Police and emergency services found the victim, who has not been identified, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to an area hospital, where she was treated and initially listed in critical condition, remaining hospitalized for several days, according to Webster.
The woman told detectives she heard noises outside her home and when she opened the door to investigate an unknown male assailant pushed his way in, stabbed her, took the keys to her and fled the scene in it.
The vehicle was found abandoned later that morning in Aberdeen, Webster said.
Pursuant to state statute and Doyle’s age, the prosecutor’s office was prohibited from releasing any personal information about the defendant until the matter was transferred to Superior Court’s criminal part, Webster said.
