6/20 – Three Family Members Arrested after Search Warrant Executed in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown Police Detective Bureau and Quality of Life Unit executed a search warrant on Friday, June 13, at a residence on Leonardville Road in the Leonardo section of town.
The search warrant was the result of a two-month investigation into the sale of heroin from the residence.
As a result of the warrant, police charged Michael Coffey, 29, with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, unlawful possession of testosterone, possession with the intent to distribute heroin within 1,000 feet of a school zone, unlawful possession of roxicodone, possession with the intent to distribute roxicodone, possession with the intent to distribute roxicodone within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of handcuffs for an unlawful use, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a weapon while committing a crime. He was held on $210,00 bail.
Also arrested was Michael’s 23-year-old brother, William Coffey, who was charged with possession of heroin, unlawful possession of testosterone, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, obstructing the administration of law and aggravated assault on a police officer. He was held on $35,000 bail.
Police also charged Linda Coffey, the subject’s mother, with obstructing the administration of law and resisting arrest. She was held on $12,500 bail.
Police said that upon executing the warrant, William Coffey allegedly attacked the officers and began punching and fighting with them. Michael and Linda Coffey also allegedly resisted the officers and were obstructing the safe execution of the warrant.
Officers also had to contend with two vicious pitbull dogs while in the residence. Police confiscated multiple knives, brass knuckles and leather “slap jack” from the residence as well as $743 in currency that was seized for possible forfeiture.
The investigation was conducted by detective Keith Hirschbein, detective Laurence Schachtel, officer Anthony Dellatacoma and officer Donald Coates. Patrolman Kevin Geoghan of the Hazlet Township Police Department and his K-9 partner, Diablo, assisted with the search warrant.
