MIDDLETOWN – An early morning fire destroyed a two-story home Sunday on Alimar Drive.
The fire started at approximately 4:15 a.m. and completely consumed the home, according to detective Lt. Stephen Dollinger, a police spokesman.
The home was unoccupied at the time. It had been recently purchased and was undergoing renovations before the new owners moved in.
Investigators believe floor stripping fluid and a pile of rags were the cause of the blaze, Dollinger said.
Investigators have determined the fire was accidental and there were no reports of any injuries, according to Dollinger.
About 60 firefighters from five of Middletown’s companies responded to the blaze, getting it under control by 5:45 a.m., according to John Isaksen, the fire department’s public information officer. The last units left the scene by 8:30 a.m., he said.
