MIDDLETOWN – Monmouth County is slated to receive more than $2 million in federal Sandy-relief funds for repairs to wastewater pump and retention stations, according to U.S. senators Robert Menendez and Jeff Chiesa.
The money will be earmarked for the Bayshore Outfall Authority, located in Middletown’s Belford section, to repair damage caused to the facility by the October storm.
The authority disposes of liquid waste and sewage for 13 municipalities in the Bayshore, transporting it through 14 miles of pipes.
The $2 million is part of an overall $9 million in Sandy relief just allocated from the $60.2 billion in storm aid approved by Congress and President Barrack Obama in January.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awards grants on a rolling basis from state submitted applications, done in coordination with local government.
