LONG BRANCH – Postpartum depression (PPD), the most common complication of childbirth, affects one in seven women each year. To raise awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, the public is invited to join Team Lincroft at 10 a.m. June 28, at Thompson Park in Lincroft to support Climb Out of the Darkness, the world’s largest event to support this cause.
Sponsored by The Center of Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders at Monmouth Medical Center, proceeds for the local Team Lincroft climb will support Postpartum Progress, a nonprofit organization that supports moms around the world. Postpartum Progress focuses on supporting pregnant and new moms with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum OCD, postpartum psychosis and pregnancy depression.
“Our goal is to make more people aware of PPD and for women to know there’s no shame and no stigma to come forward and ask for help,” said Team Lincroft’s group leader Lisa Madden, RN, CCE, childbirth and parenting education manager AT Monmouth Medical Center who also leads Monmouth Medical Center’s Postpartum Support Group.
Those who wish to support Team Lincroft’s climb may contact Madden at lmadden@barnabashealth.org.
