7/15 – Chimney hit by Lightning in Red Bank, Storm Warning Through 9 p.m

RED BANK – The chimney of a home at 236 Broad St. was struck by lightning this afternoon.
The strike knocked out a piece of the chimney’s exterior and “blew out” the home’s fire alarm system, according to Fire Chief Tom Welch.
No injuries were reported.
Borough firefighters and police responded to the alarm.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire state through 9 p.m.
A series of storms with heavy, drenching rain, thunder and lightning have rolled through the area all afternoon.
A flash flooding warning, issued by the weather service, remains in effect until 7:15 p.m. in Monmouth County.
A 60 percent chance of showers are predicted for tomorrow before 2 p.m. but there are no dangerous weather postings for the day. The high temperature is expected to be about 80 degrees.
Thursday is expected to be sunny and about 82 degrees.
