RED BANK – The Broadway Diner, serving around the clock for nearly two decades, closed its doors on Monday.
“It was iconic,” Mayor Pasquale Menna said of the establishment at 45 Monmouth St.
One of the diner’s owners, Bob Russo, died in February and the remaining two owners restructured the business, according to Menna.
Russo’s daughter, Amy Russo Harrigan, who owns eateries in Asbury Park and Montclair, will renovate the site and run this as a third location, catering to the breakfast, brunch and lunch crowd, Menna said.
The Broadway Diner has been operating for 18 years, Menna said.
Patrons arriving at the silver-clad diner, known for its very pink interior, found a rectangular whiteboard behind the glass door that simply said, “Sorry, closed.”
