RED BANK – Borough police last night arrested a Red Bank man for an alleged attempted armed robbery on Monmouth Street.

Police arrested Luis Fuentes-Morales, 21, charging him with attempted robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to Capt. Darren McConnell, a police spokesman.

Police responded to a call reporting the attempted robbery at approximately 9:23 p.m. Monday. The victim, a 32-year-old Red Bank man, told the officers he was on Monmouth Street in the area of Bridge Avenue, when he was approached by a young man who demanded money. When the victim refused, the perpetrator took out a knife and again demanded money. When the victim started to call 911, the suspect discarded the knife and began to leave the scene, according to police.

When the officers arrived, they took Fuentes-Morales into custody and charged him.

Fuentes-Morales’ bail was set at $115,000 and he was taken to Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold.
