DEAL – The Jewish community is inviting Monmouth County residents to rally in support of Israel at 8 p.m. tonight.
The rally will be held at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, 100 Grant Ave.
The event is presented by Jewish Federation of Monmouth County in partnership with Chabad of the Shore, Congregation Ahavat Olam, Congregation Brothers of Israel, Congregation Magen David, Congregation Sons of Israel (Wayside), Congregation Torat-El, Marlboro Jewish Center, Temple Beth Miriam, Temple Shaari Emeth, and others as the list of participating synagogues is still growing.
Congregation Brothers of Israel and Congregation Torat-El are coordinating the program.
The list of participating synagogues and local civic leaders is still growing.
In an email blast to thousands this morning, Sheryl Grutman, president of Jewish Federation of Monmouth County, wrote:
“Dear Friends, I am heartened that our community has come together to support Israel in this time of crisis.
I am saddened that, because the fighting continues and displays of anti-Israel sentiment are spreading all over the world, we need to do more.
Will you help?”
The letter then ask those planning to participate to RSVP to www.jewishmonmouth.org or by calling 732-866-4300.
Senator Jennifer Beck, R-Monmouth, also released a statement about the rally.
“The violence occurring in that region of the world today is truly horrifying. We should all be encouraging both sides to agree to a ceasefire and find a peaceful solution to these age-old disagreements,” Beck said. “Violence is not the answer and the longer it persists the further we get from peaceful resolution. Israel has fought for decades to maintain its borders and protect its people while trying to exist peacefully with its neighbors. I have always supported Israeli sovereignty and its right to defend itself.”
