RED BANK – Members of a coalition working to purchase for preservation the T. Thomas Fortune House, 94 Drs. James Parker Blvd., will be holding a meeting open public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Ave.
The purpose of the meeting is to encourage support and inform the public about the efforts to preserve the site, designated a National Historic Landmark.
The organizers have begun a campaign to raise the necessary money to purchase the site with hopes of eventually converting it into a cultural center and museum. From 1901-1915 the west side residence was home to T. Thomas Fortune, a noted African-American journalist, author, publisher and early civil rights activist.
