RED BANK – The borough council has scheduled a special public meeting for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, for a presentation regarding the borough’s former Sunset Avenue trash incinerator and dumpsite.
Borough officials have long expressed an interest in turning the approximately 8.5-acre property, overlooking the Swimming River at the western most end of Sunset Avenue, into a park.
The state Department of Environmental Protection awarded the borough a $500,000 grant to cover costs of work done in 2009 to demolish and remove the smoke stack and to begin pursuing remediation work at the long-unused location.
