ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – The Historical Society’s annual pot luck supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. today.
Friends and neighbors are invited to share a pot-luck supper and enjoy the view of Atlantic Highlands from the hilltop porch of the Strauss Mansion at 27 Prospect Circle.
At 7:30 pm, Randall Gabrielan will present his latest book. Explosion at the Morgan: The World War I Middlesex Munitions Disaster brings to vivid life the devastation and human toll of the 1918 explosion of the T.A. Gillespie Company Shell Loading Plant, also known as the Morgan Depot, on the Raritan Bay in South Amboy. Explosion at the Morgan describes that terrible night in the context of Middlesex County’s role in World War I, and the consequences of the disaster during and after the war.
Gabrielan, the president of the Middletown Township Historical Society and executive director of the Monmouth County Historical Commission, is the Monmouth County historian and the author of 40 books of New Jersey and New York history.
The porch supper and talk are free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to bring an appetizer, salad, entree or desert to share.
The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society is an all volunteer 501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Atlantic Highlands and to restoring the Strauss Mansion, a Queen Ann-style home at 27 Prospect Circle. It is the home of the Historical Society and a registered National Trust Historic Site.
