8/21 – Operations Return to Normal After Tuesday's Explosion at Naval Weapons Station Earle

MIDDLETOWN – Operations quickly returned to normal at Naval Weapons Station Earle following Tuesday’s explosive mishap in a maintenance building at Earle’s waterfront complex in Leonardo.
Seven of the eight people injured were treated and released from Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank on Tuesday. One sailor remains hospitalized at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where he is recovering from his injuries.
Those who received medical treatment as a result of the incident were Boatswain’s Mate Chief Andre Wilkes, Machinist’s Mate Chief Stacy Burleson, Machinist’s Mate First Class Matt Wister, Machinist’s Mate First Class Heath Maloon, Engineman Third Class Ashley Pitman, Hull Technician First Class Christopher Giannini, Lt. Jeff Dennison and Firefighter Inspector Mr. Michael Donahue.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident and recommend any appropriate preventative and corrective measures.
