8/22 – Long Branch Man Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge

LONG BRANCH –Police arrested a city man yesterday and charged him in connection with the early Wednesday morning shooting and attempted murder outside of a Broadway restaurant.

Authorities are charging Dyrell Stovall, who is also know as Nug, with first-degree attempted murder and weapons charges.

Stovall is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, on $950,000 bail with no 10 percent cash alternative, said Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

When police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Broadway and Third Avenue at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday, they found a 21-year-old city man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds outside of Crown Chicken, 230 Broadway, according to Webster.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition, Webster said.

Authorities said a joint investigation by Long Branch police and detectives from the prosecutor’s office determined that Stovall allegedly fired multiple shots at at the victim at close range and then fled the scene.
