LITTLE SILVER –— Borough police have arrested a technician for a local pharmacy for the alleged theft of prescription pain medication over an 11-month period.
Police arrested Stephen Matthews II, 23, who lives in the Locust section of Middletown, charging him Tuesday with theft, receiving stolen property, possession of prescription legend drugs and obtaining controlled dangerous substances by fraud, according to Det. Gregory Oliva, a police spokesman.
Matthews, who was working as a technician at the CVS pharmacy, 510 Prospect Ave., allegedly had been taking oxycodone and hydrocodone pills from the pharmacy’s stock from September 20132 through August 2013. Police charge he took 1,614 pills over that period, which would have a street value of more than $20,000.
Matthews were released on $15,000 bail pending his court appearance, police said.
