MIDDLETOWN – The 15th case of rabies in the township was reported Thursday when a rabid raccoon tangled with two pet dogs in Lincroft.
The dogs came in contact and fought with the raccoon on Parkview Terrace, Lincroft, yesterday morning, according to Anthony Mercantante, township administrator.
The raccoon was captured and tested positive for rabies.
As for the dogs, “There’s no real concern as they were up to date” with their rabies vaccinations, Mercantante said.
The dogs, however, will have to be home quarantined for 45 days as a precaution, he said.
There have now been 15 reported cases of rabies in the township since February 14 involving infected raccoons and one an infected fox.
