SANDY HOOK – A 17-year-old South Plainfield teen died by drowning early today after being taken from the surf in an unprotected area of Sandy Hook on Tuesday.
Sarnad Rivzi was taken out of the Atlantic Ocean at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday after a friend notified lifeguards that Rivzi was missing after going swimming at Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook, according to Daphne Yun, a National Park Service spokesperson.
Rivzi was discovered on the ocean side of the park between Beach Areas C and D, an area not monitored by lifeguards, Yun said.
