NEWARK – The state Board of Medical Examiners has ordered the temporary suspension of the medical license of an Ocean Township medical doctor who, state authorities charge, was prescribing unwarranted large amounts of pain killers to more than 50 patients over a two-year period.
Dr. Paul M. DiLorenzo from the Oakhurst section of Ocean was suspended by the state board for allegedly prescribing excessive amounts of oxycodone.
According to the complaint the state Office of the Attorney General filed with the Board of Medical Examiners, DiLorenzo provided prescriptions of the drug in dosages of 240 milligrams per day.
Authorities said that amount is appropriate only for patients with the most extreme underlying conditions, such as end-of-life care.
