RED BANK – What had been Rassas auto dealership for more than six decades is now a pile of ruble as workers demolished the existing structure.
The buildings are coming down at the venerable 395 Broad St. location to make way for the construction of a Walgreens pharmacy.
The pharmacy proposal had been a contentious one, with area residents, from both Red Bank and Little Silver, voicing objections to what they believed would be a busy retail operation and what that would mean for their quiet residential neighborhood, located behind the site.
The borough Planning Board approved the plan in February after obtaining some concessions from the developer, including trimming hours of operations, less exterior lighting and tighter control of traffic flow in and out of the site.
Rassas has been at the Broad Street location for more than 60 years and in Red Bank for more than 80 years.
