In recognition of the coming one-year anniversary of Super Storm Sandy, two organizations, that have been working to assist rebuilding efforts, are mounting two days of public service and are seeking volunteers to offer assaitance.
The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, in partnership with Jersey Cares, is seeking to mobilize 5,000 volunteers in Monmouth, Bergen, Atlantic Hudson and Ocean counties to work in communities that were heavily impacted by the storm. The volunteers will work on such projects as beach cleanup and fence installation; bench, picnic table, raised bed and lifeguard stand assembly; debris and sand removal; field and park revitalization; and home repairs and rebuilding.
The organizations are looking for the work to be done Saturday, Oct. 26 or Tuesday, Oct. 29, which is the actual anniversary of the destructive storm.
“The Garden State has made great strides to rebuild, but there are many in need of a helping hand and this effort seeks to provide that as we remember Hurricane Sandy and look toward the future,” said New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie, Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
