FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office is warning the public about telephone scammers attempting to obtain payments for fraudulent claims of unpaid taxes.
The scammers claim to be representatives of the Internal Revenue Service and are targeting residents with calls claiming the residents owe back taxes and if they don’t pay immediately they’ll be subject to jail, deportation, the closure of a business, the revoking of driver’s licenses and other scare tactics, according to the prosecutor’s office
