MIDDLETOWN – A township man is in police custody and another is hospitalized after an argument on Tuesday afternoon between the two roommates escalated into a stabling.
Police arrested Joseph Dickey, 23, and charged him with one count of first-degree attempted murder and weapon offenses after he allegedly stabbed his roommate multiple times at their 83 Thousand Oaks Drive apartment in the Leonardo section, according to Charles Webster, public information officer for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Township police, first aid and rescue squad and MONOC paramedics were dispatched, arriving at the Thousand Oaks location at about 2:09 p.m., where they found the victim, who had suffered numerous stab wounds. The victim was described as a 24-year-old man, who was airlifted to an unspecified area hospital where, as of Thursday, he remained in critical but stable condition, according to Webster.
Authorities are alleging Dickey stabbed his roommate following an argument between the two men. Dickey is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, on $512,500 bail without the option to post a 10 percent bond.
