9/24 – Red Bank Establishes Month-Long Mourning Period for Late Police Chief

RED BANK — A period of mourning for the borough will be in effect through Oct. 23,to honor the memory of Police Chief Stephen G. McCarthy, who died Monday.
Memorial bunting to remain on public buildings and flags will be set at half-mast on all borough buildings during this period.
In addition, the members of the Red Bank Police Department will wear a mourning band on their badge.Regulation dress uniform has been ordered for all members of the department for all ceremonies attendant to the funeral.
Borough officials have canceled public meetings scheduled for this week, out of respect for McCarthy’s passing.
The Human Relations Committee meeting, which had been scheduled for Monday night was canceled. Also canceled this week are: tonight’s environmental commission, Wednesday’s borough council and the historic preservation meetings, and Thursday’s rent leveling board session.
The borough council will carry over its work until its next scheduled meeting on Wednesday Oct. 9.
