FREEHOLD – Kenneth Sheinbaum, Monmouth County’s longtime library director, will retire from the County on Dec. 31 after more than 40 years.
The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently presented a proclamation to Sheinbaum for his many years of service to the Monmouth County Library System.
“Ken has definitely left his mark on the county over the last 40 years,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the library system. “We wish Ken nothing but the best as he enters into his well-deserved retirement.”
Sheinbaum began his tenure with the county library system as a library trainee in 1972, working at the library headquarters building in Freehold Borough while attending Rutgers University.
Sheinbaum served as the head of technical services before becoming assistant director for the Monmouth County Library System in 1990, and in addition to his continuing supervision of technical and computer services, he became the chief liaison for the library system’s member libraries. In 1992, he was named director of the Monmouth County Library System.
“In addition to his many and varied responsibilities, Ken served on the executive board and public policy committee of the New Jersey Library Association and as a member of the New Jersey Center for the Book,” Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone asid.
“Throughout his outstanding career, Ken has been widely recognized as an advocate for, and a champion of, the Monmouth County Library System,” Burry said. “By ushering in technical innovations, and always recognizing the multitude of benefits a library brings to the entire community, Ken has fostered many innovative and entertaining programs for everyone from children to seniors.”
