9/9 – Lecture about D-Day Tomorrow at Brookdale

198

LINCROFT – Professor Paul Zigo will talk 7 p.m. tomorrow about “Operation Overlord, 6 June 1944: Why Did it Succeed?” in classroom 105 in Main Academic North at Brookdale Community College.
Operation Overlord, the allied invasion of northwest France on June 6, 1944, was carefully planned over a six-month period as a combined, joint service operation to breach Hitler’s “Fortress Europe.”
Involving five American divisions, three British divisions and one Canadian division plus nearly 7,000 ships and landing craft, the operation nearly failed.
Zigo, a retired Army colonel, will review the reasons for the near failure and explain how the allied invasion forces turned near failure into success.
Those attending the session might like to come early and walk through the lobby of the Bankier Library to see a gallery dedicated to the World War II photographs of Al Meserlin. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Parking is available in Lot 5, near the Main Academic North building on the college campus at 765 Newman Springs Road.
