With its third annual calendar, Wheels & Wings, Dorn’s Classic Images (DCI) selected photographs that capture the Two River area’s good old days of planes, wagons, skates, classic autos, bikes and trolleys. The calendar has two “front” covers, both of them featuring shots of Red Bank Airport, which was actually in New Shrewsbury—now called Tinton Falls.

Kathy Dorn Severini said, “Everyone seems to have a story about working at or flying out of the airport or dining at the Airport Inn next door. So the calendar’s proving to be very popular. I’m on one of the covers with my mom and dad, back in 1971, when the Dorn’s Tripacer (in the background) was the last plane to fly out of the airport on the field’s final day of operation.”

The calendar includes memorable shots from its 10,000-image archive, of Red Bank, Fair Haven, Rumson, Highlands, Atlantic Highlands, Little Silver, Oceanport, Sea Bright, Long Branch, and Asbury Park. “We don’t always know the identity of all the persons depicted in the photos, but every year our customers get the satisfaction of recognizing friends and relatives and providing us with names,” says George Severini co-archivist with his wife Kathy and the calendar’s designer. He adds that, “This year, I again included more than one photo per month. There are so many beautiful photos to choose from.”

“We’re proud that our calendar publication has become a tradition around the holidays. For six years our photos were featured in the Prown’s calendar as well as our independent version for the past three years. David Prown has always been a big civic booster for the area, and though he is not publishing his own calendar with Dorn’s images this year, he will be selling the calendars at his new location, Prown’s Doors and Windows, in Middletown,” Severini said.
