The FilmOneFest, a festival of 1-minute films will be having an encore screening at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at the Paper Moon Puppet Theatre.
All the 1-minute films screened at this summer’s festival plus those screened only at the awards reception will be shown. Attendees will have a chance to discuss the festival with directors, judges, and filmmakers while enjoying refreshments following the screening.

FREEHOLD
The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, together with the Monmouth Conservatory of Music, will present at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, the second in its series of three classical music concerts made possible by a grant from the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County when it hosts “Jewish European Classical Composers: Kovalsky and Friends.”
The program will begin with Piano Trio No.1 by Felix Mendelssohn and will include works by Camille Saint-Saens, Arnold Schoenberg, and Mieczylaw Weinberg and will feature a chamber music quintet consisting of pianists Vladislav Kovalsky and Illya Filshinskiy, violinist Katha Zinn. cellist Desiree Abbey, and clarinetist Roy Gussman.

LINCROFT
Brookdale Community College’s Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution special events for fall will honor The Greatest Generation, beginning with a free event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal Commemoration.
History will come alive with actual veterans from the conflict present, including distinguished battle veteran Thomas J. Mahoney, Union. Also attending will be veteran Paul Ryan, New York City, and Albert R. Petro, Toms River. Members of the 4th Amphibious Tractor Battalion will be recognized.
Featured guest speakers will include Dr. David Ulbrich, command historian, U.S. Army Engineer School and author of Preparing for Victory: Thomas Holcomb and the U.S. Marines 1936-1943. Also speaking will be Maj. Michael Ogden, commander, Marine recruitment command.
The Battle of Guadalcanal is now seen as a major turning point in the Pacific war from which Japan never recovered though the cost was heavy to the United States.. Following the fall of the Philippine Islands to the Japanese in the spring of 1942, the Battle of Guadalcanal was the first real test of land strength between the militaries of Japan and the U.S. in the Pacific Theater of War. Seven major Naval battles combined with the determination of the Marines and Army units ashore brought eventual victory for the American forces. It was a bloody and protracted struggle for the steamy, malaria-ridden, rain-sodden island in the Solomon Islands off of Australia that began on Aug. 7, 1942, and continued until January 1943.
The commemoration will take place at the Warner Student Life Center on the Brookdale Lincroft main campus, 765 Newman Springs Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is free to all and groups are welcome.

From scarecrows to sack races, Thompson Park Day celebrates the season with traditional autumn activities in a beautiful park setting.
Held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, the event is the quintessential fall festival. Free activities include a corn maze, canoeing (noon-4 p.m., weather permitting), pottery demonstrations, pond exploration, disc golf, kids’ races and entertainment.
Activities requiring tickets – two or three tickets per activity, each ticket is $1 – are pumpkin painting, ceramic painting, a climbing wall, wagon rides, mini golf, inflatable rides, a teacup ride, a video game trailer and archery.
A scarecrow contest will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entries are $10 in advance or $15 the day of event.
The Friends of the Parks will be holding their annual Strut Your Mutt doggie costume contest as well.

Brookdale Community College Student Life invites the community to an evening lecture by Matt Roloff: Little People, Big World on Oct. 16 in the Collins Arena.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for his presentation that will begin at 7 p.m. in the Warner Student Life Center, Navesink rooms II and III. The Lincroft main campus is located at 765 Newman Springs Road. The event is free.
Roloff is best known for starring in the hit TLC reality show Little People, Big World. Aside from Matt’s entrepreneurial success and celebrity, it is his personnel story that has truly inspired so many.
Roloff has viewed the social stigmas and physical limitations of being a dwarf not as obstacles, but as opportunities, helping him thrive in a world not always welcoming. He crafted ways to work around those challenges and move forward to achieve his goal of living an extraordinary life.

MIDDLETOWN
The Middletown Township Historical Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, will feature John King who will talk about his new book Stories from Highlands New Jersey, a Sea of Memories and have copies available for sale and autographing.
The book is a compilation of memories of the area in and around this old resort town written by a variety of residents and visitors, each from a personal perspective.
The meeting will be held at the MacLeod-Rice House, Croydon Hall, 900 Leonardville Road, Leonardo. Refreshments are served.

RED BANK
Join community activists attorney John Tatulli and Gilda Rogers, an educator and author, as they present The People Speak, a stirring and inspirational documentary that showcases some of history’s most influential yet some unknown figures who had the courage to speak up and speak out against injustice, poverty and war.
The documentary is based on the work of the late historian Howard Zinn, author of the best-selling book, A People’s History of the United States. It will be presented from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at The Red Bank Library, 84 West Front St.
Actors and musicians such as Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington, Danny Glover, Marisa Tomei, Bruce Springsteen and John Legend are featured in the film.
RUMSON
In a new twist on an old tradition, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School will celebrate homecoming with a carnival.
The RFH Homecoming Carnival will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, to the general public as well as students and will take place on the grounds of the high school’s upper field.
The carnival will feature a variety of rides including an inflatable moon bounce, obstacle course, basketball challenge, joust, wrecking ball, and Euro bungee. Other attractions planned are barbecued food, glitter and henna tattoo artists, live performances by student bands, a balloon artist, stilt walker and more. There will be a charge of $5 for rides and $5 for food. RFH students with SGA cards will receive free rides and food.
The homecoming carnival promises fun for all, and the festivities will continue as the RFH football team squares off against Monsignor Donovan at 7 p.m. Admission to the football game is free for RFH students with SGA cards, $3 for adults and $2 for students, children, and senior citizens.
