From noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10, the Atlantic Highlands Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a Taste of Atlantic Highlands. Borough restaurants will be participating along with the local retail stores, which will offer raffle prizes.
Those participating include Walter Mihms Steakhouse, Blue Bay Inn, Ralph’s Ices, Zoe’s Vintage Kitchen, Copper Canyon, On the Deck, Hudson Café, The Wine Bar, Harborside Grill, Flaky Tart, Kunya Thai Siam, Town & Surf Diner, Original Pizza, Memphis Pig Out, Philly’s, Pomodoro Pizza, Joy & Cake, Foodtown, Atlantic Bagel, Carton Brewery, Chiafullo’s, Navesink Fishery, Gateway Bar & Liquors, Navesink Fitness Juice Bar, Maria’s Pizza, Shore Shakes & Freezi-Yo.
Tickets are $30 for a “taste” from each one of the participating restaurants, some with wine and beer tastings. Retail stores will offer raffles and coupons. Those visiting all participating chamber stores and restaurants can enter for the grand prize.

From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, Brookdale Community College’s Outreach Business and Community Development will be featuring a trio of best-selling authors to share their inspiration and how their works of fiction connect to our lives.
Authors participating will be: Caroline Leavitt, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Pictures of You, and eight other novels; Dorothea Benton Frank, a New York Times bestselling author of Folly Beach, Lowcountry Summer, Return to Sullivan Island and many other titles, and Pamela Redmond Satran, author of The Possibility of You. Satran’s previous novels include The Man I Should Have Married and Younger.

TINTON FALLS
The Red Bank Corps of The Salvation Army last week thanked area military veterans for their service during a visit to the Veterans Administration clinic on North Gilbert Street.
The corps served coffee and doughnuts in memory of The Salvation Army Doughnut Girls, who served both to members of the military during World War II. Orange juice, fruit and candy were also given out and goody bags were provided as well.
United Teletech Financial and Two River Community Bank sponsored the event. Members of the corps’ advisory board contributed too.
“This was an opportunity for us to simply let all veterans know how thankful we are for their service to our country,” Corps Officer Capt. Stewart Dalrymple said. “Saturday was Armed Forces Day and last week was Salvation Army Week. We thought that made last week a particularly appropriate time to express our feelings,” Dalrymple said.
Dalrymple also said the corps hopes to make a visit to the clinic an annual event.
RUMSON
Gasland, a movie about the controversial practice of fracking to extract gas from the earth, will be shown 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, in Wilson Hall at the First Presbyterian Church of Rumson on East River Road.
The event is being sponsored by the environmental organization Food and Water Watch.
A representative from Food and Water Watch will available for a question and answer session following the film presentation.
St. George’s by-the-River Episcopal Church will host its annual Canterbury Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 9, come rain or shine.
The old-fashioned fair will appeal to people of all ages. In addition to the popular white elephant sale, available for sale will be jewelry, sporting goods, plants and flowers and thousands of books for all ages. Treasures can also be found at the shabby chic display. An array of items will be up for bid at the silent auction tent.
An area will be dedicated for children’s fun with a petting zoo, clown, balloons, cotton candy, face painting and lots of games where the little ones can win prizes. The children’s chance auction is an annual favorite for young fair-goers. There again will be gently used children’s clothing and toys.
Food will include hamburgers and hotdogs cooked on an open outdoor grill, baked goods and a lobster salad luncheon. There will also be a tea garden for iced tea.
Proceeds help support local outreach and charitable organizations.
