RED BANK
The Tower Hill Concert Series presents An Evening of Handbells at 7 p.m. June 9, at The First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank (Tower Hill), 255 Harding Road.
Under the direction of Adam Peithmann, the church’s director of music ministries, the handbell ringers will employ two 5-octave sets of bronze bells for a total of 127 bells and four octaves of choir chimes.
Heading the program are the 10 Calvin Ringers, who are students at area high schools. Their eclectic program includes arrangements of beloved hymn tunes and also secular works, such as theme music from Pirates of the Caribbean and Prisms, a whimsical composition that keeps the ringers in perpetual motion. The flamboyant Rhythmic Rip is an avant-garde work that features a percussive “drumline.” The program also includes special appearances by three of the church’s graded handbell choirs.
The concert is presented without charge. An offering will be taken to offset expenses of the ringers’ annual summer tour. The 2013 tour includes performances at Disney World, Orlando, as well as two appearances at Winter Park, (Fla.) Presbyterian Church.
The church is handicapped-accessible.
Additional information about Tower Hill Concert Series events is available by calling 732-747-1348 or visiting www.towerhillchurch. org.
